The student enrolment in
distance education programmes offered by the Annamalai University has
grown multiple times ranging from 5-10 percent. There has been an
increasing demand for the existing programmes as well as introduction of
new programmes in the university.
As of now, 4.5 lakh students were on the rolls of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) in at least 500 programmes. Despite the increase in enrolment there was no fee hike for the programmes. As many as 48 new programmes would be introduced, including three online programmes in MBA in financial, marketing and human resource management streams.
As financial and monetary matters had acquired great significance in a growing economy, PG diploma in stock market operations and certificate programme in fundamentals of mutual funds would be offered this year. The DDE had introduced MBA and PG diploma programmes in logistics and supply management, shipping and logistics management, and shipping and port management. The university had started 68 new information centres, taking their total to 116, to provide counselling to students and spot admission (in select centres).
