Civil engineering is an engineering discipline, which deals with the design, construction and maintenance of various structures including bridges, canals, dams and other buildings. It is the oldest technical engineering department that evolved. But presently, this engineering field is divided into several sub categories. That classification can be based on the area of work. Some of these fields are structural engineering, environmental engineering, water resource engineering, transportation engineering etc. But, when you analyze in the root level you can see that these fields are closely related and they are simply divided for the sake of operation. Scientific studies tell that, ancient practice of civil engineering was started from 4000 BC.
